Elect Jennifer Petersen
I’m running for Scottsdale City Council because I love Scottsdale and I want to continue to serve in my community. I’ve been a long-time advocate for issues important to Scottsdale. Having served 3 years as president of Scottsdale Unified School District’s governing board, I have been intimately involved in education issues facing our children and families and I believe I will bring a unique perspective to the City Council.
As head of SUSD’s governing board, I know firsthand how to live within our budgetary means. We need a very tight, fiscally prudent and fiscally responsible budget in the city of Scottsdale, and that fiscal responsibility is what I will bring to this office.
Equally important to fiscal responsibility is vision. Scottsdale must be visionary and innovative to remain competitive. We can’t allow neighboring cities to surpass us, and we can’t afford to rest on our laurels or believe that our unique cachet will last forever. We need more forward thinking. Scottsdale needs to be a city that says “YES” more than “no.” We need to embrace the kind of vision and determination that Herb Drinkwater had; a vision that has brought us innovation like the Sonoran Preserve, Spring Training, WestWorld and the Scottsdale Fashion Square.
I believe in fiscal responsibility and limited government. Scottsdale must operate with transparency and be accountable to the citizens of Scottsdale while providing the best possible services. Scottsdale residents should be afforded opportunities to be involved and their opinions and ideas valued in the process of governing the city. We must meaningfully communicate to best serve each and every citizen in this great city, keeping it one of the best places to live in Arizona.
